Two days from today.. Wednesday… November 24th.. yes, the day before Thanksgiving… one of the busiest travel days of the year..
Certain people are trying to stage National Opt-Out Day where flyers are encouraged to opt-out of getting a full body scan and instead get a time-intensive pat-down from security.
Groups involved include The U.S. Airline Pilots Association and the Allied Pilots Association who are protesting the body scans on privacy and safety grounds.
Also, this guy made a big deal about his interaction with security. He recorded his experience with airport security after refusing the full body x-ray scan. The video went viral and helped popularize National Opt Out Day.
I think that he was out of line with his comments to security and that the TSA agent handled the situation exactly as he should have. The security guy could not have made it any more clear what he was going to do. There was no reason for hostility.
I understand why there is opposition to the new full body x-ray check that is in 68 American airports.
1) Too much x-ray radiation can cause cancer. Constant travelers including pilots and flight attendants could face over exposure to their FCA recommended yearly limit of radiation.
2) You can see my weener in the x-ray. Travelers feel that it is an invasion of privacy for TSA officials to view an almost perfectly clear image of us naked as illustrated below.
