Adventure Paul, Hot Neile, and Jennifer Smith are back from the American Idol auditions in Nashville TN. We left as “non-winners”–because according to American Idol there are no losers, just non-winners.
A big thank you to Linda Davis and Sandy Merrill for hosting us for the weekend. Meeting this couple from Couch Surfing was the best part of our trip. I asked if we could take a family portrait in front of the piano the night before the auditions.
Adventure Paul, Neile, Jennifer, Linda, & Sandy
Sandy is one of the greatest men I’ve ever met. We reminded each other of ourselves and connected immediately. As a big-band singer and with a lifetime of music experience and passion, he took a large interest in our adventure and wanted to help Jennifer prepare. For the auditions, Jennifer sang “Till I make it on my own” which Sandy recommended and coached her on.
Since we had less than 30 seconds in front of the judges, she started in the middle of the song with the line “surely someday I’ll wake up and see the morning sun.”
Linda Davis is also experienced and talented with music. She currently plays violin with the Nashville Silver Strings, a highly regarded group of musicians who perform at weddings and parties in Nashville. Linda took us out Thursday night to 12 South Taproom & Grill to watch a friend named Peter play the violin. If Neile or Jennifer captured video I will post it later because he was really good.

On Friday we went sightseeing around Nashville and picked up a few new friends along the way.

New Friends and Icecream
I tried to smack Jennifer in the face with her ice-cream cone but FAILED.
Look at Neile’s face posing with this guitarist–it’s priceless.
Hot Neile and The Guitarist
Nashville TN is extremely hot this time of year compared to Asheville where we had driven from.. even at 8 in the morning. To hide from the sun, we went to see The Sorcerer’s Apprentice with Nicholas Cage. A $9 movie and 90 minutes of air conditioning. I thought the movie was retarded and that the trailer contained all the best parts–but it was entertaining, it was nice to sit down in A/C for a while, and I ended up stealing an idea from the movie later when I passed a girl a note at the auditions:
I want to be Adventure Paul’s:
[ ] Girlfriend
[ ] Friend
Jay Baruchel’s character never found out the answer, but Stacie hand-wrote:
[x] Fan

Stacies on the left - Thanks for putting up with me for 3 hours.
Adventure American Idol Auditions was a blast. I met a lot of great people and learned how American Idol auditions work. Don’t believe everything you see on tv.
I was interviewed 3 times by American Idol camera men and got solo camera exposure about 8 different other times. Look for me on TV when the American Idol Season begins.
