The title of this post sounds like a comedy movie but My Best Friend’s Wedding was also a real event that took place this past September 25th.
My best-friend from college, Samantha, and her fiance Aaron tied the knot at the Binkley Chapel in Raleigh NC after a little over a year engagement.
The reception was held a couple miles down the road at Crenhsaw Hall which I compared to a sorority house for adult parties. In the beginning there were meatballs, dumplings, and a chocolate fountain. Followed by a delicious dinner, speeches, and dancing.
I never got any photos at the wedding because my phone died on the way there giving me directions to the chapel. I am always having camera follies.
Samantha sent me a link to some published photos today and they are amazing! Wonderful job capturing the event, Amanda Olson.
I posted a few of my favorites below. You can view all of the photos here:

I can’t believe my best friend is married! I was joking with her earlier today that I look forward to visiting my “old married friends” next time I’m in North Carolina. Samantha, although a year and a half younger than me, officially became older when she got married–it’s an adult thing to do which puts her past 30 now.
Marriage seems far off for me. However, in the past few minutes while writing this post, I’ve seen about 15 women I’d marry walk in and out of this Starbucks on Canoga Ave. I better cut this short so I can post some Missed Connections on Craigslist.
I remember when I got to the age that I started looking to see if a woman had a ring on her finger–I think it was about the time George W. got re-elected. ”Is she married?” wasn’t something an 18 year old had to worry about. But then I turned twenty and girls I became interested in were old enough to potentially be married.
I think Samantha and Aaron were smart to date for several years before getting engaged.
I’ve seen too many people I know rush into things. It’s only been 7 years since high school and I’ve already seen several former classmate’s marriages begin and end. Thanks Facebook.
Hindsight is 20/20 but I’m sure glad I didn’t marry anyone when I was 20.
5 Years Later when Adventure Paul is 30 years old…
“Hindsight is 20/20 but I’m sure glad I didn’t marry anyone when I was 25.”
Adventure Paul’s Tips For When Your Friends Get Married
1. Add a new recurring event to your Google Calendar that says “Samantha and Aaron Ruehl’s Anniversary” for the day of the wedding. Then in the notes write “Married 2010″ so that you always know which anniversary your friends are celebrating. Set the event to repeat every year and you’ll never forget to call your friends and wish them a “happy anniversary!”
2. Update your Gmail Contacts with her new e-mail address. (Change of last name).
3. Pick a date exactly 9 months after your friend’s wedding and bet them that this will be the birthday of their first child.
Congratulations Aaron and Samantha. I wish you both the best of luck.
Sincerely,
Adventure Paul
PS: I bet June 25, 2011.
