Mid-November 2010 Update

Hi everyone!

Last weekend Justin and I took a drive through Topanga Canyon then hit the coast and headed north to Malibu.

We came across a giant sand hill that had to be climbed. It was a lot easier going back down. Look how tiny my car is and how ant-like Justin becomes.

I’ve been working a lot this past month building websites for clients, learning new skills to stay up to date in my industry, and building some new additions to this site that I will publish in the near future.

I have slipped in a few good times here and there though. Earlier this month I went to Dia de los Muertos in Canoga Park which means in English “Day of the Dead in Canoga Park.”

It was a small festival that reminded me of a tiny Mexican Bele Chere which you might remember is the yearly festival in Asheville NC that I ran a 5k at this past summer.

Typically Dia de los Muertos is a traditional event where Mexicans honor the deceased through decorative displays–but at this festival I only saw two small displays on fold-out tables. It was more about the music, art, and vendors.

First there were Mexican’s dancing to the traditional humba joomba.

Yeah, I know.. I blew you away with that video. Best 17 seconds of your life since your first time, right?

The street art was my favorite part of the festival and definitely an honor to the deceased.

A lot of interesting things have been happening around Adventure Paul too.

Did you know that iTunes finally started selling The Beatles after a long dispute? What a big name not to have had, iTunes.

If you like the iPad, I heard that the new Blackberry Playbook tablet is faster at browsing the web. I love BlackBerry but I’d rather have an Android tablet.

My mom wrote some stories for her blog that I found particularly interesting because they deal with the history of my family.

I also discovered a new song that I like called Tighten Up by The Black Keys.

I updated http://pauldrecksler.com to better reflect the new services I provide for my clients. Search is turning social.

Adventure Paul is a few Likes away from 300 fans on Facebook. Invite your friends to Like the page by clicking the Invite link under the profile picture.

I’ve been keeping up with P90X this past week and going for long walks in the evenings. I’ve also been eating like a champion and not like a jackass. I’ve got to get in shape before I see my family so I can not count calories during Thanksgiving.

A blog that I follow called New Dress  A Day is coming to the end of a year long project. Marisa spent $365 across 365 days at thrift stores buying dresses for $1 and then altering them. The blog chronicles this past year of designing and wearing a new dress every day. She has 13 days left.

Justin sent me a link to One Red Paper Clip which is a blog about a guy who started with one red paper clip and traded his way up—one trade at a time. I remember seeing this years ago but never did see how the story ended.

How’s the weather where you are? My favorite part of being in LA this winter is the warm summer weather.

And now a little Daniel Tosh..

Have a nice day everyone.

Love,

I love this. It was like reading a great magazine and going from one interesting story to another. p.s. This isn’t your Mother…I’m a nice stranger who is watching her laptop while she’s getting a cup of coffee.
