Liza's Reef at Bele Chere

Liza's Reef

Liza's Reef

My friend Lee Pantas sent an e-mail update that I wanted to share. He will have a booth this weekend at Bele Chere in Asheville NC. Mr. Pantas is unveiling Liza’s Reef, a project that is years in the making, and named after someone dear to my heart. The project’s mission is to help prevent the further destruction of  rain forests, coral reefs and other oceanic habitats. Mr. Pantas hopes to do this by educating and inspiring others to join in the battle to save our earth’s environment.

You can find out more about Liza’s Reef and Bele Chere on their respective websites. Bele Chere is an Asheville tradition since 1979–I’ve been going since I was a kid. It was originally started by downtown merchants and business people to revitalize the business district. Many of the storefronts were abandoned at the time and the residents had moved outward. Now between 300,000 and 350,000 people attend Bele Chere Festival each year.

My advice about Bele Chere

Find the Doc Chey’s noodle booth and order the Spicy Peanut Noodle Chicken dish. They bring this out every year for Bele Chere and it’s delicious. I give it the Adventure Paul Ridiculous Delicious award.

See you this weekend Mr. Pantas–hope to see everyone else there as well.

Dear Friends of Liza’s Reef:

Two things!

1. I will have a booth this weekend (Friday -Sunday, July 23-25) in Bele Chere, the street festival in Asheville NC, and introducing my Liza’s Reef Project to people in Asheville.

I will also be selling Giclee prints as well of the paintings completed so far and am very excited about this. Giclee prints are high quality, inkjet prints on canvas, and are produced one at a time. The quality is far superior to the older offset lithography process used for centuries.

A Giclee print on canvas is virtually indistinguishable from an original.  So, if you are near Asheville this weekend, stop by my booth and say hi! I have a great location, easy to find, right up the street from the Fine Arts Theatre on Biltmore Avenue (only a few hundred yards down from Pack Square and the Vance Monument).

2. I have selected the last beneficiary of the Liza’s Reef project (as most of you know, when I sell (hopefully) the paintings in 2015, 50% of the proceeds will go to the ten organizations Liza’s Reef is supporting. #10 is Zanmi Beni  a home for orphaned and disadvantaged children in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti. More information about this organization, founded by Partners in Health (a medical organization in Haiti) will be posted on my website in the near future. Here is a link to a newsletter about Zanmi Beni if you are interested:    http://www.pih.org/index.php/news/entry/update-a-new-home-at-zanmi-beni/

Hope to see you at Bele Chere!!

Lee Pantas
