Great Blue Ridge Talent Search at White Horse

Last night Hot Neile and I went to White Horse in Black Mountain to watch Jennifer Smith perform.

Jennifer recently won 1st place at the Great Blue Ridge Talent Search Competition. The other performers were her runners up.

We arrived during the intermission and caught the second half of the show. I tried to record one song from each performer–but my memory card became full. I’m always running into camera follies. I need some better equipment. Cannon, I know you read this blog, will you send me a EOS 5D Mark II? I’ll officially make the caption of every picture “A Cannon Camera Photo”

First up is Clark Spencer “The Rockstar” a 19-year-old singer/guitarist. Clark was awesome and put on a good musical show with some comedy mixed in. He was a better performer than most the losers who just advanced to Hollywood CA on America’s Got Talent. While I’m purposely on the subject of America’s Got Talent… What happened last episode? Why didn’t Michael Grasso advance?

The second performer was Jenna Lindbo from Oregon. http://jennalindbo.com.  I liked some of her music but her stage presence threw me off. She smiled constantly, even during serious songs, and she had several small outbursts of laughter for no apparent reason. It seemed a bit calculated.

This is Jenna singing an original song called Spectacles.

Saving the best for last.. Jennifer Smith. Apologies for only capturing part of her first song before my camera troubles.

Next Jennifer sang I Dream a Dream from my favorite musical Les Miserables. It was a better rendition than that terrifically ugly woman Susan Boyle who surprised everyone on British Idol last year. I hadn’t heard of Susan Boyle until last night when someone made the comparison. Then I had to look her up. I’m not much of a Any Country Idol fan.

Jennifer also did some songs from musicals I wasn’t familiar with. If anyone else captured video footage of her last night I will add it later.

Good job everyone.

Love,

Adventure Paul

PS: I called Jennifer Smith earlier today and left a message. “Hey Jennifer.. Last night when we were driving home I said “Neile–Jennifer is awesome. She should be on American Idol’ and Neile told me you had tried out for it last year and were thinking of auditioning one week from today in Nashville, TN. Let’s go! I want to try out to be one of the No’s. Give me a call back. Let’s do this. 828-273-3031. Repeat 828-273-3031. Yeeaah!”

So call me back Jennifer–let’s go audition for American Idol. You for real… me for fun.
