Divas and Drafts II

Last Sunday I uploaded a video at the Divas and Drafts II show hosted at the White Horse Tavern. This was the venue’s second attempt at combining opera music and beers. It was an interesting concept except for that it was held at 2pm on a Sunday. Now I’m not much of a drinker in general, but I’m especially not on a Sunday afternoon.

I also disliked the price of entry. When Bob Hinkle, one of the owners of White Horse, told me the price at the front door I exclaimed, “Twelve dollars?! Does it come with a beer at least?”

“No,” he replied, “But that’s a good idea. It is called Divas and Drafts.”

The performers were Jennifer Smith, Rich Eugene, and Kim Hughes (the co-owner of White Horse) with Daniel Weiser on the piano.

I’m a #1 Jennifer Smith fan but $12 seemed steep for a show of this caliber. I especially felt that way when Kim Hughes tells the audience, “Can you believe this is unrehearsed?” For the price I paid, I didn’t want to believe it.

I enjoyed the show–Weiser never disappoints on the piano. He’s a former attorney turned pianist who reminds me of my brother the way he sits when he plays piano. I recorded some videos that I will share below. Good job Jennifer and the opera gang.

First up Jennifer Smith..

Next up Rich Eugene…

Now Kim Hughes…

Jennifer Smith & Kim Hughes…

Enjoy the videos.
