Adventure Paul's BF

Adventure Paul and BF @ Chapel Hill Football Game

My best female friend from college is Samantha. As the story goes–she walks past my dorm room window the day before freshman year starts. I was sitting in front of my laptop screen wondering where my roommate was and if I’d ever see him this year. She comes right up to my window and looks inside (in a really deliberate way–where she put her hand above her eyes in a ‘salute’ to block glare and really see in.) I say “Hey come on in.”

She was with her roommate Lily, a hot Asian, that wanted my nuts but just didn’t know it yet. (In hindsight, she never knew it.) We decided to  go for a walk to find the buildings our classes were in… school was starting the very next day. So there’s me,  Hot Asian (Lily),  and Bubbly Blonde girl (Samantha) and maybe two other people who must be insignificant because I don’t remember them.

At some point on this walk Samantha says to me “Want to be best-friends?” I think it was one of those things that girls say that you can’t give much merit to. I probably said yes and didn’t really mean it but thought it would put me in a good position with her roommate. Except we really did become best friends.

The rest is history. From that point on we were inseparable. It’s crazy how almost 8 years later I look back at that period of my life–at every lunch, walk around campus, conversation  outside her dorm room, class  together–it’s all one big memory that I can think about in an instant. Years of building trust and best-friend love for each other become a snap of a finger. At the time, life was moving slower than molasses going up hill in January, but now it seems light speed. I couldn’t imagine who I’d be today without her.

Today’s article is dedicated to my best-friend. I love everything about her and you should too.

I write that because I’m about to post a link to her blog Awkward Samantha and just in case she gets upset about that–the sentence prior to this should soften the blow.  Personally I love http://awkwardsamantha.blogspot.com–not just because she’s my best, but because it’s really good! Sam’s a great writer and her personality is all over her blog. I love the way she uses pictures and images to tell a story. I’m trying to cop her style a little bit in my writing.

Samantha was profiled in the publication outlook – the magazine of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary because she is an outstanding Christian. Although I always thought of her as super-Christian (compared to this Jew)–it wasn’t until after college into her professional life that she truly accepted Jesus as an adult. Rather than summarize the article written about her–here’s a link. It’s on page 24 of the publication.

I’ll be seeing Samantha and her fiance Aaron Micheal for dinner in Raleigh on Wednesday and I’ll post some pictures. I’ve been in Asheville since October and don’t see her as much anymore.

Conference Room Temporary Office

Currently I am in Lillington, NC building a new website for my brother’s law firm. I’ve taken over his conference room table with my super-computer. I will be spending days in the office and a few nights with my brother, sister-in-law, and niece until the website is complete. Although this client is particularly special because he changed my diapers as a baby–I’ll go anywhere in the country to build a website for a client. It helps to be where all the action is when building a site for a business.
